Angela Dixon announced as Director of Saffron Hall Trust

It has been announced Angela Dixon will leave her role as Head of Music at the Barbican Centre to take up the post of Director of the Saffron Hall Trust from March 2014.

Angela Dixon said: “I have been working at the Barbican Centre in various roles within the music department for 14 years and I am immensely proud of the work that my colleagues and I have achieved. The Barbican is a world-class arts centre with an exceptional music programme; we will shortly be announcing another excellent classical music season for 2014/15 and the contemporary music programme has never been stronger. I will be extremely sad to leave.

“I am, however, very excited about my new role at the Saffron Hall Trust. Saffron Hall is a brand new state-of-the-art 730 seat concert hall built on the site of Saffron Walden County High School. Built in the heart of its community, the hall offers great opportunities for local, national and international work across art forms. I look forward to contributing to the development of this new organisation, helping to create a sector-leading centre for combined arts and learning.”

During Angela’s two and a half years as Head of Music the Barbican has presented five International Associate Residencies, Barbican Britten – a series of acclaimed concerts, events and talks around the Britten centenary, and contributed three major projects to the Cultural Olympiad in 2012. In Autumn 2012 Angela introduced two new Associate Ensembles to the music programme, the Academy of Ancient Music and Britten Sinfonia. Last autumn the Guildhall School of Music and Drama opened its new 608-seat concert Hall at Milton Court, in which the Barbican music department presents both classical and contemporary concerts.
