In November, musicians from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama visited Saffron Hall to work with students from the Saffron Centre for Young Musicians (SCYM). SCYM is a new Saturday music school formed through a partnership by Guildhall School of Music and Drama, Saffron Hall, Essex Music Education Hub and Saffron Walden County High School.
One of the many benefits of this partnership is that students from Guildhall School visit once a term to work with SCYM students. Most recently, members of a second year Guildhall School wind quintet spent their Saturday working with SCYM junior and senior wind groups. Following the workshops, the students gave a recital and instrument demonstration in Saffron Hall in front of tutors, students, family and friends.
The next collaboration will take place in February, this time with a Guildhall School trombone quartet. SCYM brass and wind students will work together with the Guildhall School trombone quartet throughout the morning, and then the trombone quartet will give a lunchtime recital for SCYM students and their families .
