We are delighted to announce that following a number of successful pilots and members events earlier this month, Saffron Hall will be opening its doors across October and November for a new series of one-hour socially distanced concerts and the first two weekends will go on sale from Wednesday 30 October.
The first weekend (9-11 October) will open on Friday 9th with a jazz club featuring the Libby Key Trio and a folk club with the Shackleton Trio. On Saturday 10th we welcome Thaxted Festival to the hall, who will be presenting an afternoon with BBC Young Musician winner pianist Martin James Bartlett. On Saturday evening, tenor Mark Padmore will perform a programme of English art song with long-time collaborator pianist Julius Drake. On Sunday we have three concerts with players from Resident Orchestra the London Philharmonic Orchestra. In the morning the LPO Brass Sextet present a family-friendly programme and in the afternoon and evening there are performances from the LPO strings with Mark Padmore in a programme that includes Britten’s Serenade for tenor, horn and strings.
The second weekend (23-25 October) features local jazz star Joanna Eden in two concerts presented by Fairycroft House. On Saturday 24th we are delighted to have concerts with composer, producer and guitarist Justin Adams in collaboration with Italian musician Mauro Durante. On Sunday 25th we welcome back Saffron Hall Resident Orchestra Britten Sinfonia performing a family friendly programme featuring players from the orchestra in the afternoon and evening two performances of a programme that features music by Vaughan Williams and pays homage to composer Arvo Pärt in his 85th year.
Keeping our audiences, artists and staff safe is our priority and to allow for social distancing and to create an intimate atmosphere, the auditorium seating bank has been retracted and replaced with tables and chairs. Other measures introduced in line with government guidance include reducing the capacity of the Hall from 740 to 150, contactless digital ticketing, mandatory face coverings when not eating or drinking (unless exempt), reduced duration of performances, staggered arrival times and pre-order drinks service to tables.
Tickets for the first two weekends of events in October will go on sale on the following dates:
- Patron members & above: Wed 30 September from 12 noon
- Friends: Thu 1 October from 12 noon
