Buckingham Palace Garden Party

Following the King’s Award for Voluntary Service received by Saffron Hall earlier this year, two lucky long-standing volunteers received an invitation to attend a Buckingham Palace garden party.

On a bright and sunny Wednesday in May, Deirdre and Mary headed for London and joined the queue of brightly-dressed attendees to enter Buckingham Palace grounds.

The afternoon was spent strolling through the beautiful gardens, seeing the King and Queen, as well as the Duke & Duchess of Edinburgh, being entertained by the two brass bands, and, of course, having tea, sandwiches and cake (and later an ice cream!).

Their verdict: 'We had a brilliant day. It was a once-in-a-lifetime experience, and we were very honoured to be representing the Saffron Hall trustees and front of house volunteers.'
