TTP Cambridge Half Marathon - a success!

Graham King's Journey

A couple of weeks ago I had the privilege of participating in the TTP Cambridge Half Marathon, raising funds and awareness for Together in Sound, Saffron Hall’s music therapy project for people living with dementia and their companions. Others taking part in the race included Ellie, our Visitor Services Manager, Mark from our Site Team, along with members of BearWalden Crossfit, Saffron Striders, and several people whose families have participated in the project. Some were seasoned runners, some (me) were not! Each of us had spent the winter months training on our own so it was great to meet all of ‘Team Saffron Hall’ before the race. We warmed up together, shared our nerves and soaked up the atmosphere. The 13.1-mile course itself was magnificent, offering a unique blend of urban and rural. We ran through the historic Cambridge colleges—King's, Trinity, St John's, and Jesus—passing iconic landmarks such as the Bridge of Sighs and the Wren Library. The route also led us through the picturesque village of Grantchester, although the road into the village was one of the toughest parts! Luckily, Deirdre, one of our brilliant volunteers and Duty Managers was there with a ‘Go Team Saffron Hall’ banner, a cheer and a smile - giving us all the extra boost we all needed at that point. The support along the route was just amazing. Spectators cheered enthusiastically, calling out our names and encouraging us to keep going. The race volunteers were exceptional, ensuring we had ample water, energy gels, and words of encouragement at every station. Unexpectedly, the day turned out to be the warmest in the UK, with temperatures reaching 19.5 degrees! This added an extra challenge, but the team's spirit and the support from the crowds kept us all going to the finish line.

Completing the Cambridge Half was a testament to the dedication of everyone involved. Our team raised over £12,000, enabling Saffron Hall Trust to continue to support Together in Sound, enhancing the lives of those affected by dementia through the power of music. I am sure I speak for the entire running team when I extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has supported us, but don’t worry, if you missed out it’s not too late! Every donation makes a difference so if you'd like to contribute to the ongoing success of the Together in Sound project, I've included the link (always a fundraiser - sorry I can't help myself!) https://www.givengain.com/campaign/support-us-via-the-cambridge-half-marathon-2025-29692
