BBC Radio 3 comes to Saffron Hall for the weekend. Sara Mohr-Pietsch introduces recitals from Norwegian pianist Christian Ihle Hadland and three musicians he collaborates with closely. The acoustic of our hall is simply perfect for chamber music, and each concert is being recorded for future broadcast.
Shostakovich wrote his only Viola Sonata on the brink of death. Dvořák’s E flat Piano Quartet is the exact opposite: a joyous celebration of life, written by a master-melodist at the exuberant peak of his powers. In their closing concert, Christian Ihle Hadland and his colleagues show that there’s no emotion that chamber music can’t embrace – with Mozart’s youthful Variations as a delicious hors d’oeuvre.
Special offer: Book a ticket to all three BBC Radio 3 Big Chamber Weekend concerts for £30.
This concert will finish at approximately 8.40pm
Mozart Variations for piano on ‘Mio caro Adone’ from Salieri's 'La fiera di Venezia' K.180
Shostakovich Sonata for viola and piano Op.147
Dvořák Piano Quartet in E flat major Op.87
