At the request of the artist there has been a change of programme. Nocturne for violin and piano by Reynaldo Hahn will replace Der Erlkönig.

The young New Zealand violinist Benjamin Baker has already attracted great praise (‘hugely impressive’ Daily Telegraph; ‘huge promise’ Classic FM). Admired for his richly sonorous playing, he performs an early work by Britten which is full of youthful high spirits and variety. The concert also includes a Sonata by Elgar, composed in the aftermath of WWI, which opens with music of powerful anguish and ends in a mood of triumph and hopefulness.

After the recital, meet the artist and enjoy a complimentary coffee, sherry or squash in the foyer. These hour-long recitals are family friendly – all ages welcome.
