Bernstein at 100: BBC Symphony Orchestra

Bernstein at 100: BBC Symphony Orchestra

Presented by Saffron Hall

The BBC Symphony Orchestra performing in concert

Because of space restrictions on the stage due to the BBC Radio 3 recording, the programme order will now be:

Bernstein Overture to Candide
Gershwin Rhapsody in Blue
Bernstein Symphony No.1
Copland Appalachian Spring Suite
Stravinsky Firebird Suite (1919)

As previously announced, Joana Carneiro is expecting her fourth child shortly and will not be able to conduct this concert. We are very grateful to Roderick Cox who will be conducting this concert in her place.

Composer, conductor, showman: Leonard Bernstein was the ultimate musical all-rounder. To celebrate his 100th birthday, the BBC Symphony Orchestra and Roderick Cox play the music he loved – Gershwin’s swinging Rhapsody in Blue – and the music he wrote: a rare performance of his Bible-inspired first symphony.
