Emotion recollected in maturity: both Johannes Brahms and Gabriel Fauré waited many years before writing string quartets. Then they confided their thoughts and emotions in some of the most intensely personal music they ever wrote. The award-winning Castalian String Quartet are always welcome visitors to Saffron Hall. For this concert, they pair these two mature masterpieces with Beethoven’s Op.18 No.6 – a delightfully irreverent entertainment from a young genius at the top of his game.
