Gabrieli - Easter Oratorio

Gabrieli - Easter Oratorio

Presented by Saffron Hall

Gabrieli Consort

‘Come, hurry, and run!’ The rising jubilation of the apostles on Easter Day find thrilling expression in the rushing semiquavers and trumpet fanfares of the joyous opening chorus of Bach’s Easter Oratorio. Later, arias of bittersweet melancholy reflect doubts and loss: ‘Wipe the tears of my suffering’ sings St Peter to a haunting melody. Gabrieli and its director Paul McCreesh, lauded all over the world for their period-instrument reconstructions of the greatest musical events in history, make their Saffron Hall debut with this dramatic and moving meditation on the Easter story.

This concert will finish at approximately 9.10pm
