Kavakos, Capuçon & Lugansky
Kavakos, Capuçon & LuganskyPresented by Saffron Hall
At the request of the Artist the order of the Brahms Piano Trios is now No.3, Op.101; No.2, Op. 87; interval; No.1, Op.8.
Kavakos, Lugansky and Capuçon: three renowned soloists join forces for an inspirational concert of chamber music. Brahms’s three piano trios - which span a large part of his career - offer a fascinating guide to his development as a composer. The early Op.8, a turbulent and conflicted work, was written during a period of great concern for his ailing mentor Schumann. Op.87 is much more joyous in tone, and contains a sparkling finale of Mendelssohnian lightness and grace. The late Op.101 shows Brahms paring back his style to its essentials, using only minimal means to create profound and dramatic musical effects.
This concert will finish at approximately 9.30pm.
