Sir Paul McCartney's Liverpool Oratorio

Sir Paul McCartney's Liverpool Oratorio

Presented by Saffron Hall

Liverpool

A collaborative performance featuring amateur musicians from Paris, Cambridge and Saffron Walden. Sir Paul McCartney composed the work in collaboration with Carl Davis in response to a commission from the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Society for its 150th anniversary in 1991. It has been chosen as the subject of the second such Anglo-French joint venture following Cambridge Sinfonietta's successful Shostakovich 5th Symphony in 2011.

McCartney’s text draws on events in his early life in Liverpool, through the central character Shanty: infancy during the Blitz, schooldays, then adulthood with its challenges and crises. The whole is cast as a large-scale work for full orchestra, chorus, children’s choir and soloists.

This concert will finish at approximately 9.30pm
