10am - Registration
10.30am - 11am Welcome from John Shayler followed by Keynote Speech - Nicola Benedetti - "Combining excellence with inclusivity”
Nicola devotes a significant part of each season to education visits and workshops and is an active supporter of organisations and individuals advocating the importance of music – and other expressive arts – in education. More and more is being added to the already huge amount of credible and evidence-based research showing that the impact of music as part of the learning process for young people not only enriches their lives by exposing them to music making and listening but also improves concentration, teamwork, discipline and confidence.
11am - 12.15pm The Physicality of Playing – a teachers perspective. With Nicola Benedetti & Natasha Boyarsky
“Musicians are athletes as well as artists; the necessary physical stamina is prodigious”. Nicola Benedetti & Natasha Boyarsky discuss the importance of how we use our bodies when playing. Nicola draws from her personal experiences as a young student learning about sound, intonation, position and the physicality of playing.
