Saffron Opera Group’s acclaimed series of Wagner performances continues with the composer’s devastating account of impossible yearning and forbidden ecstasy. Once again the superb SOG orchestra under Michael Thorne (‘warm and fluent… great sweep and momentum’ Opera) is joined by a cast of exciting young talents and established international stars, including Saffron Hall favourite Elaine McKrill as the adulterous Isolde and veteran Wagnerian Richard Wiegold as her deceived husband. Young British Heldentenor Jonathan Stoughton, hugely admired as Siegfried in both SOG’s Siegfried and Götterdämmerung, promises to set spines tingling in Wagner’s most challenging and thrilling tenor role. ‘A remarkable concert performance… superb’ (The Telegraph on Parsifal).
The performance will be sung in German with English surtitles.
