Sean Shibe in Recital

Sean Shibe in Recital

Presented by Saffron Hall

For our first Young Artist Coffee Concert of the year, we are joined by the dazzling young performer Sean Shibe, the first guitarist ever to be admitted to the BBC Young Generation Artists scheme. A former Royal Overseas League gold medallist, he is renowned for his remarkable technical abilities and deeply expressive playing. For this recital he performs an all-English programme inspired by the virtuoso guitarist Julian Bream, who commissioned much of the 20th century’s key guitar repertoire. The recital starts and ends with John Dowland, England’s greatest lutenist of the Elizabethan era, and traces his influence through the music of William Walton, Lennox Berkeley and Benjamin Britten along the way.

Sean is a Young Classical Artists Trust (YCAT) artist. To find out more about YCAT click here.

Following the recital enjoy a tea, coffee or sherry with the artist in the foyer.

This concert will last for approximately one hour and there will not be an interval.

About the Artist

Born in Edinburgh in 1992 of Scottish and Japanese heritage, Sean studied at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, and currently with the inspirational Paolo Pegoraro in Italy. He is the first guitarist to be admitted to the prestigious BBC New Generation Artists Scheme and the only solo guitarist to have received a Borletti-Buitoni Trust Fellowship. Other awards include the Royal Overseas League First Prize and Gold Medal (2011), Ivor Mairants Guitar Award (2009) and D’Addarrio endorsement.
