The English Concert
The English ConcertPresented by Saffron Hall
At the request of the artist there has been a change of programme. Vivaldi’s Concerto for strings in G minor will replace the Scarlatti Sinfonia.
Albinoni’s most popular oboe concerto (which contains a ravishing and justly-celebrated slow movement), and two gorgeous violin concertos by Vivaldi linked to the sorrows of the Virgin Mary, form the prelude to a performance of Pergolesi’s masterpiece. His Stabat Mater describes Mary’s anguish in music of heartbreaking beauty, performed here by the always-thrilling period-instrument ensemble, The English Concert, and two superstar singers of the early-music world.
This concert will finish at approximately 9.20pm
