Words in Walden Festival

Words in Walden Festival

Presented by Saffron Hall

James Mayhew headshot

Chicks hatching, children playing, ox-carts, gnomes, Baba Yaga the bone-eating witch of Russian folklore, ancient castles and haggling shoppers are just some of the pictures which inspired Mussorgsky's wonderful and dramatic music.

In the latest extravaganza in Words in Walden’s annual series of concerts for children, much-loved children's author-illustrator James Mayhew reads his verses inspired by Mussorgsky's musical art gallery tour and then paints new illustrations on stage while the SWSO performs the music. Listen out for bells, chants, nutcrackers and feathers.

As always, James's paintings will be raffled at the end of the concert. The proceeds this year will go to Uttlesford Homestart.

Suitable for children aged 6+

This concert will last approximately one hour and there will not be an interval.
