A New Year's Celebration
A New Year's CelebrationPresented by Saffron Hall

New Year 2026 transports us – musically – westwards away from Vienna to America.
The song of a great city, Gershwin’s colourful orchestral portrait captures beautifully the bustle, elegance and romance of Paris, immortalised in Gene Kelly’s dance routines in the classic film. His groundbreaking opera meanwhile captures a rather different urban soundscape. Giving voice to a fictionalised neighbourhood in South Carolina with struggles, consolations and tragedies that are all too real, gives us some of Gershwin’s greatest and most memorable vocal numbers. Embellished with other well-loved American music, join the BBC Concert Orchestra for an afternoon of transatlantic treasures.
