Atmospheric, ethereal and captivating music by three of Finland’s best-known composers. Causing a storm when it was premiered in 1972, Einojuhani Rautavaara's 'Concerto for Birds and Orchestra’ is a quirky piece that incorporates real bird song, recorded on the frozen landscapes of the Arctic and Northern Finland.

Kaija Saariaho’s Terra Memoria is Dream-like music inspired by the memories of loved-ones, some crystal clear and others that have been transformed by the passage of time. Valery Sokolov brings ‘soul, finesse, and technical wizardry’ to Sibelius’ extraordinary Violin Concerto. Ethereally glacial one moment and fiery and passionate the next, the piece ends with a rumbustious dance once described as a ‘polonaise for Polar bears’.
