Award-winning London based New Zealand pianist and composer John-Paul Muir leads an all-star band featuring some of the finest UK jazz musicians in presenting his critically acclaimed new album, ‘Home Now’ recently released on the Ubuntu Music label, alongside a curated selection of jazz standards, in fresh interpretations created for this performance.
The ensemble features Brigitte Beraha, “one of the most creative vocalists on the UK scene” (BBC Radio 3), George Crowley (Yazz Ahmed) on bass clarinet & tenor saxophone, and a rhythm section of Jakub Cywiński (Ola Onabule, Partikel) on double-bass and Eric Ford (Imogen Ryall, Partikel) drums. Influenced by Norma Winstone’s trio with Gesing and Venier, ‘Home Now’ showcases Muir’s lyrical compositional style in a set of five pieces with expressive playing of both delicate beauty and overflowing ecstasy. His classical heritage is present in the impressionistic style that he first debuted with his 2019 solo album ‘The Cornerstone Suite’.
“Beauty distilled: from the opening intimacy of ‘Sunlight’, you know Home Now is special.”
