Alex Jennings, Iestyn Davies & Thomas Dunford
Alex Jennings, Iestyn Davies & Thomas DunfordPresented by Saffron Hall
“Sorrow was there made fair / And passion wise, tears a delightful thing”. The Elizabethan lutenist John Dowland knew that in love, the only thing sweeter than happiness was sorrow. Few living interpreters understand his music more profoundly than Iestyn Davies and he’s devised an evening of poetry, music and drama for voice and lute to explore a composer for whom a single teardrop can hold a universe of emotion.
Alex Jennings is a three-time Olivier award-winning actor, who has regularly played principal roles for many of the country’s leading theatre companies including the Royal Shakespeare Company and the National Theatre. You may also recognise him from his film and television roles as Prince Charles (opposite Helen Mirren) in The Queen, and the Duke of Windsor in the Netflix smash hit The Crown.
Thomas Dunford has played recitals in New York’s Carnegie Hall and Frick Collection, London’s Wigmore Hall and the Washington Kennedy Center and has collaborated in chamber music projects with conductors and soloists including Nicola Benedetti, William Christie, Bobby McFerrin and Anne Sofie von Otter.
