Joyce DiDonato
Joyce DiDonatoPresented by Saffron Hall
The great American mezzo returns to Saffron Hall in a song recital with a twist. Accompanied by a five-piece jazz ensemble she brings together world class musicians from the varied worlds of classical, jazz and tango in the pure pleasure of improvisation, experimentation and exchange. Together they create their own musical language, finding surprising connections between baroque arias and classic standards from the Great American Songbook.
Working with her hand-picked band led by pianist/arranger Craig Terry and featuring trumpet, double bass bandoneon and percussion, the charismatic DiDonato hosts the evening, drawing inspiration from the 17th century Italian opera and Duke Ellington and Richard Rodgers in equal measure. With part of the auditorium given over appropriately to cabaret tables, this is an occasion to cherish, as we get close-up to one of today’s most sought-after singers as she reveals her many, various and often surprising private passions.
