Foyer World Music: Mohamed Errebbaa & Gnawa BristolPresented by Saffron Hall in association with Essex Book Festival & Essex Cultural Diversity Project
Part of Foyer Clubs
Join us to celebrate the end of Essex Book Festival's Radical Pilgrimage: The Saffron Trail with artist, writer and wild-crafter Lora Aziz plus music from Moroccan Gnawa master Mohamed Errebbaa and Gnawa Bristol.
Artist, writer and wild-crafter Lora Aziz will be leading a 7-day 70-mile Radical Pilgrimage along The Saffron Trail from 15-21 June as part of Essex Book Festival. It will culminate in this musical celebration on the Saffron Hall foyer.
Gnawa music originates from the Gnawa ethnic group, who were brought to Morocco from sub-Saharan Africa around the 11th century.
Featuring soaring vocals and bass-heavy grooves from Moroccan gimbri (three-string guitar) player Mohamed Errebbaa, get ready for a night of global music that will see intensity, power chords and stories of arrival and departure. This performance will harness the deep trance power of the Gnawa repertoire as well as drawing, and will showcase new material, bringing elements of desert blues and heavy groove to lift the spirits.
Tickets include free food (chickpea curry and saffron rice), courtesy of Essex Cultural Diversity Project
