Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra

Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra

Presented by Saffron Hall

Tickets from £25

Price includes a commission of £1.00

Elgar’s concerto and Rachmaninoff’s dance suite are their last completed works, yet both are filled with a vital, irresistible life force, overflowing with vitality, as if reluctant to take their leave.

They are both infused with an exquisite nostalgia, the Elgar from an England – and a world – changed forever by the cataclysm of the Great War, Rachmaninoff writing in American exile, torn from his Russian roots, unable to return or forget. With memorable melodies, rhythmic drive, and a sumptuous orchestral sound, these masterpieces are a powerful pairing of enormous cumulative power. Wagner’s exuberant operatic prelude opens the concert with a flourish.
