Esteemed performer, educator and conductor Craig Patterson joins the SWSO for the first time in a rare performance of Alexandra Pakhmutova’s lyrical “Trumpet Concerto” and will also play in Aulis Sallinen’s beautiful “Sunrise Serenade”.

The concert opens with Wagner’s majestic “Mastersingers Overture”, possibly his best known and often-performed. The concert closes to the sound of Respighi’s tone poem “Pines of Rome” Completed in 1924, this most colourful of works is in four parts which concludes with his most well-known composition, “Pines of the Via Appia” depicting the return home of a victorious Roman army.
